about

Selections of sampled riffs and soundscapes that felt like a piece of something, a bridge to a point in time.

My inexperience shows on some of the older tracks, but I lost the project files for those ones. Sometimes you have to make do.

"...I was walking around town from class to class at the time, burning from the cold that had overtaken that winter. My jacket had been left at home and the bus had skipped its stop, so there was an opportunity for me to just experience the journey for once. Even if it was almost too cold to be enjoyable, I found some happiness in observing the unnatural stillness in the world around me at the time.

This was at the peak of everyone being sick. Sick, and tired, exhausted by the horrible feeling that sort of just welled up inside when you left yourself to rot in your room, decay on the internet and streak your misery across digital walls. It had been so long that there were people who wished to be free of it, willing to risk their livelihoods and the ones around them just to get some kind of solace in gathering.

Down by the surface of a frozen lake, someone had constructed a shed. I never really cared about what it was, just that somewhere, someone had decided to make a home so far below where I had ever gone along the town, down by the ice. Someone told me it was just an ice fishing house, maybe someone had boring intentions.

For better or worse, it ended up being a sort of hub for an impromptu party. At the peak of sickness, at intensity of death in the county I was in at the time, people were forgoing everything. They were willing to drop whatever they were doing to go down in the freezing cold and incubate themselves with illness just to get a taste of uninhibited social interaction. All at once, without any care. Too busy with my own obligations and unwilling to risk it all anyways, the moment just stuck with me, nothing more.

Everything was in such a bad state around us all at that time. Things sucked, for lack of a better term to describe how it all felt. Misery permeated the whole town, a party of the type down by the ice existed just to cloud how everyone really felt at the moment. Forgetfulness blocks out the uncertainty. Cold, unsure, watching everything burn down around us as we all entered a world that seemed like it was going to be ash before we even had a chance to see it, outside of watching others tear it down as fast as possible. Just to make sure we couldn't have any.

The lake was quiet the next day. Tracks along the snow, faint footprints, unsteadiness still in the air. A photo felt important. Here one moment, gone the next. Within the next couple years, that town was behind me entirely, with half of my stay there buried under a horrible period of time."
